Adelaide’s north – Salisbury, Elizabeth, Mawson Lakes, Modbury, Golden Grove and the growing estates beyond – holds the biggest concentration of family homes in South Australia, and some of its highest rooftop-solar uptake. Priority-group households – common across the north – are the only ones who can claim REPS for the rest of 2026.
Battery payback in the northern suburbs
Payback is fastest for households with solar already on the roof and heavy evening use – kids home after school, cooking, and summer air-conditioning. For a typical northern-suburbs home, a rebated 10kWh battery commonly pays back in the 6 to 9 year range, sooner on time-of-use pricing. If you qualify as a priority household, the REPS incentive shortens it further.

I already have solar from years ago – can I just add a battery?
Yes, and the north is full of homes in exactly this position. A battery-only retrofit keeps your existing panels and adds storage, and the federal rebate applies to the battery on its own. If your old inverter needs replacing, an installer will price that in the quote.
Is the SA Home Battery Scheme still available?
No. South Australia’s Home Battery Scheme closed in 2025. northern suburbs homes now access the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program plus the REPS Virtual Power Plant incentive – both open in 2026.
How much is the battery rebate in Northern Adelaide?
About $252 per usable kWh for the first 14kWh federally – roughly $2,520 on a 10kWh battery – plus, for priority-group households only, up to $1,030 through the SA REPS VPP incentive. The federal amount steps down at the start of 2027.
