Quote checker – battery-only quotes (after rebates)

The five things to check before any battery quote

  • Rebates itemised. The federal discount and any REPS amount should appear as line items, not vague "discounts applied". You want to see the before-rebate price.
  • Usable capacity, not nameplate. A "13.5kWh" battery should state its usable kWh - that's what you're paying for and what the rebate is calculated on.
  • Warranty substance. 10 years is standard. Look for the guaranteed capacity at end of warranty (60-70% is typical) and whether it's cycles-limited.
  • Who installs. The company selling and the crew installing aren't always the same. Confirm the installer is licensed and accredited - it's a condition of the rebates.
  • The VPP terms. If the quote assumes a Virtual Power Plant signup for the REPS amount, read the exit terms and reserve settings - compare SA VPPs here.
⚡ The federal battery rebate steps down again at the start of 2027 - worth around $400 less on a 10kWh battery. The same system costs more the longer you wait.

Quote checker FAQs

What's a fair price per kWh for a home battery in SA?

As a rule of thumb in mid-2026: roughly $750 to $1,050 per usable kWh installed after rebates for a value-brand battery-only retrofit, trending higher with backup hardware or premium brands. Outside that range, the quote should explain why.

Why can't I check a solar-plus-battery package quote here?

Package quotes blend panel, inverter and battery pricing, so a per-kWh battery benchmark doesn't apply. Ask the installer to split the battery component out - good ones will.

Is the cheapest quote the best?

Not automatically. The lowest quote can omit backup, use a short-warranty product, or under-size the system. Compare warranty, usable capacity and inclusions - then price.

Should I get more than one quote?

Yes - two is enough if both are from licensed, accredited installers quoting comparable products. The point isn't ten quotes; it's one honest comparison point.
