Why a home battery makes sense across Eyre Peninsula
The Eyre Peninsula and West Coast – Whyalla, Port Lincoln and out to Ceduna – combine long, hot summers, high power use and some of the most exposed, end-of-the-line grid connections in South Australia. That makes a home battery do double duty here: it stores cheap daytime solar for the costly evening peak, and it keeps the lights, fridge and pump running when the regional grid drops out in a storm. With SA’s high grid prices and strong sun, solar uptake is high and installers are active across the peninsula.
Backup is a bigger deal here than in the city – long feeders mean more outages, so ask installers about backup-capable inverters and which circuits stay live in a blackout. Heavy summer cooling also shortens payback.

Which rebates can Eyre Peninsula homes claim?
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount of about $252 per usable kWh on the first 14kWh – roughly $2,520 on a 10kWh battery – plus, for priority-group households only, up to $1,030 through the SA REPS Virtual Power Plant incentive, which is about $2,520 off for most households; priority-group households can add the SA REPS VPP incentive on top.
Can a battery keep my power on during an outage?
Only if it’s set up for it. A battery needs a backup-capable inverter and a backup circuit to run your home during a grid outage – not all installs include this by default. On the Eyre Peninsula’s long feeders it’s worth specifying upfront.
Is the SA Home Battery Scheme still available?
No. South Australia’s Home Battery Scheme closed in 2025. West Coast homes now access the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program plus the REPS Virtual Power Plant incentive – both open in 2026.
